The nit-pickey detail-freak within me couldn't pass on this macro opportunity.

With eyes fixed on the prize, other things lose focus and don't command our attention.

Might not be heaven, but it sure is God's glory. Couldn't help by stand in awe and wonder taking in this setting in person. The photo kinda captures it.

One of three pictures commemorating a western national park, this was an impossible picture to mess up. God supplied everything and I just pushed a button.

I couldn't turn down this opportunity to mimic the great Ansel Adams. This image certainly doesn't do him justice (I'm clueless on his famous Zone printing technique), but it was inspired by his work and I am herby offering a tribute to him.

I had never heard of Bryce Canyon prior to planning the California Thanksgiving Break trip. It certainly was worthy of inclusion in my three-part National Park series. What a creation... Visiting there soon after 9/11, I couldn't help but think of how destructive a terrorist group could be upon God's creation. Crashing a 747 into the delicate formations of Bryce and mangling their beauty would certainly be demoralizing to the American public. I know I'd be ticked...

To a certain extent, I found escape from the pressure to meet and interact with my new community at the Focus on the Family Institute by heading to the woods with my camera in hand.

Roger Varland, my photography instructor, always taught that if color didn't add anything to a photograph, it is best off black and white. I couldn't go quite that far with this image; I feel it is strongest here, sepia toned. Certainly picks up an earthy, forgotten feel.

Nature shots don't get much more cookie-cutter than this. But I was still learning about using a tripod and slowing the shutting down to capture the flow of the water, so I was excited it turned out good. The log in the foreground really helps this frame out.

No, not Spring Break 2001 in the Florida Keys, but Thanksgiving Break 2001 in Oceanside California. It was quite the trip; lifelong memories.

It's so much easier to find good sun during Michigan winters than the other three seasons. The sun spends little time high in the sky, leaving more hours of long shadows and directional lighting--which I'm a big fan of. But it's so blasted cold it's hard to have the ambition to put it to use!

Intentionally underexposed to increase the color intensity, this image certainly is moody. It includes the same boat you'll see in the next picture. Totally different perspective and feel; and a bit later in the evening.
